Yummy!!! GMO AquAdvatage salmon, ingredients include – “The genes of other fish, coral, mice, bacteria, and even humans.”

From hcn.org – “Making a living on fishing has always been a gamble, but this year Alaska’s fisherfolk have even more cause for worry. On December 26 the FDA quietly issued its approval of genetically modified “AquaAdvantage” salmon. After more than a decade of regulatory uncertainty, the FDA’s decision all but paves the way for the fish to be “farmed.” The FDA is taking public comments on the issue until February 24, but the unambiguous wording of the decision suggests little room for charting a new course. Alaskans who make a living fishing for wild salmon have long opposed AquaAdvantage, saying the freakishly fast-growing fish puts wild stocks — and the state’s fishing industry — at risk.”[1]

Not only are Alaskan livelihoods at risk, but, according to the Center for Food Safety, the livelihoods of the salmon could very well be endangered as well – “Further, research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences concluded that a release of just sixty GE fish into a wild population of 60,000 could lead to the extinction of the wild population in less than 40 fish generations. If the FDA opens the approval door, GE fish will likely be among the millions of salmon that currently escape every year, resulting in the last blow to wild salmon stocks.” Additionally, they state, “The genes engineered in these experimental fish come from a variety of organisms, including other fish, coral,
mice, bacteria, and even humans,” and this does not sound too appetizing to me!!![2]

CFS further states that – “On December 21, 2012, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released its environmental assessment on genetically engineered salmon, one of the last steps in the approval process. A public comment period is open through February 25, 2013. (Docket No. FDA–2011-N-0899.”
